Immersion Foundation Program

<dd>
<p>The English Program helps students acquire the competence, confidence, and skills necessary to enhance their studies.</p>
<p>You will be tested tested upon arrival using the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) in order to place you in the appropriate class level.<br />
The program can be taken prior to commencing any program at any Swiss Education Group school. The length of the program for each participant depends on his or her personal English level and motivation.</p>

<p>English has notably become the most effective language to know in the job market. The hospitality industry works in an international context and at Swiss Education Group schools we want to equip any interested students with all the necessary tools to properly succeed in the industry. </p>

<dt id="structure">Structure</dt>
<dd>
<p>The program offers students a minimum of 20 hours of English courses per week and covers the following subjects:</p>

<li>Introduction to College Studies</li>
<li>Structured Writing and Grammar</li>
<li>Learning Strategies and Study Techniques</li>
<li>Vocabulary Development and Intermediate Reading</li>
<li>Reading and Text Analysis</li>
<li>Communication Skills</li>
<li>Critical Thinking and Analysis</li>
<li>General Hospitality Knowledge"</li>
</ul>

<dt id="duration">Duration</dt>
<dd>
<p>The English Foundation Program runs throughout the year in 4-week blocks. Students may join at the beginning of any 4-week block for a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks. Students are required to complete the program successfully in order to begin their program.</p>

<dt id="location">Location</dt>
<dd>
<p>The English Foundation Program is currently held at the Hotel Institute Montreux campus. Students from all Swiss Education Group schools may participate in the program.</p>

<dt id="ielts">IELTS</dt>
<dd>
<p>IELTS is the world’s most popular English language test. Swiss Education Group schools are recognized and trusted IELTS test centers, we can advise you on test dates and fees and also give guidance on how to prepare for the test and what to expect on the day.</p>

The Immersion Foundation Program (IFP) allows students to ease into life and studying in Switzerland through discovery classes and hospitality immersion courses. Experience living in Switzerland prior to the start of your academic career.
This program does not cater to students who need to improve their DELT or IELTS scores. If this is needed, please refer to the English Foundation Program (EFP).
The Immersion Foundation Program (IFP) introduces you to the learning styles and academic expectations of elite hospitality education and focuses on personalized conversations and hospitality-based practical classes to increase your confidence to study in your program.
- Learn specific practical communication skills for internships and jobs
- Reinforce key academic and studying skills to prepare you for university-level studies
- Engage with and understand both the cultural and academic context of university study, enabling you to fully benefit from your degree courses
Fulfilling this program will better prepare you for a high-level hospitality environment, developing your academic study skills and hospitality communication.

- Incoming SHMS students who have never lived abroad before, or need hospitality experience
- Students who want a chance to experience and live in Switzerland before SHMS classes begin
- Students who need to build confidence for communication in relevant study topics such as Hospitality, Accounting, Wine and Bar, Service, etc.

- 4 Weeks of hospitality immersion, including:
- 20 hours per week of classes and study skills
- Swiss Hospitality Touch

- 15 hours per week of practical sessions

The Immersion Foundation Program and the English Foundation Program (EFP) are currently held at the Leysin campus of Swiss Hotel Management School.
We recommend you apply 3 months in advance before your desired start date. If you need a visa, please be sure to allow enough time between the application and the start of the intake as it can take up to 12 weeks to process.
